Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense
PerforMax3, The Department of Defense and The Department of Veterans Affairs have collaborated to put together the JIF package to address the training needs of healthcare workers who provide care to veterans, active service personnel and their families. The 40 lesson COTS package is available AT NO CHARGE to all VA medical centers and military MTFs to use for site specific and local training requirements. This project will bring standardized, web-based training required by The Joint Commission and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to all healthcare workers within these agencies.
By delivering a standardized set of online training, the DoD and VA project net savings of $15 million in the first year, $32 million by the second year, $50 million by the third year, and $67 million by the fourth year of implementation. Standardized training will help improve the quality and safety of medical care for over nine million veterans and military personnel, including those injured in the line of duty.
The PerforMax3 training project includes the delivery of AuthorMax, a tool that will enable each medical treatment facility to specialize and extend training to address local, site specific requirements and topics. The AuthorMax authoring product is built around ToolBook, a powerful web-based training platform developed by SumTotal Systems.
The project is funded through the Joint Incentive Fund (JIF), which was established in 2003 as a part of the National Defense Authorization Act. The purpose of the JIF is to encourage ongoing collaboration between the DoD and VA. JIF proposals are submitted by DoD or VA projects sponsors each year, and are approved by the Health Executive Committee. Navy Medicine and the Department of Veterans Affairs sponsored PerforMax3's project, which addresses the VA and DoD Joint Executive Council's goal "to improve the access, quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of healthcare for beneficiaries through collaborative activities."
