Video Format Progressive Download – TECH NOTE
Wednesday, November 10, 2010
Did you know?
A progressive download feature is used in the video clips contained in PerforMax3 courseware. Progressive download allows the video to begin playing while the backend of the file is still being downloaded. With progressive download the end user experience is nearly indistinguishable from the more complex and expensive streaming media implementation.
How does it work?
We use a Flash SFW media file as a container for the Flash FLV video file. The media files “play” in the imbedded media player with the content pages of the courseware. The SFW media file also provides the player controls visible on content page and support our closed captioning functionality.
Because the use of Flash is ubiquitous on the web these days most of our clients PCs are already prepared to play this type of media. Using embedded media players within ToolBook courseware open the window for more creative content design and sizzle.
